Art seen: artist explores contemporary meaning of peyote and ayahuasca

“What’s the difference between a drug, a pharmaceutical, a narcotic, an entheogen, and a medicine? How do you categorize them? How do you deal with them? How do you deal with their legal and social status? I think society needs them now more than ever.”

You might think that there was something illegal about using peyote in an art work. If you did, you’d be absolutely wrong. In Canada, it is just as legal to use peyote in an art work as it would be to grow the cactus in a pot in your sunroom. In Canadian law, the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act makes mescaline illegal but not peyote.
