There are at least four in-person businesses in Ottawa where the public can purchase magic mushrooms or other products – gummies, teas or chocolates – that contain psilocybin, the… ingredient in mushrooms.
The first bricks-and-mortar shop in Ottawa — and Ontario — was The Golden Teacher, on Dalhousie Street, which opened a year and a half ago, in December 2021. Shroomyz opened in May 2022. Magic Mush on Bank Street and Shroom World on Rideau Street each opened last November. Others, according to Golden Teacher. Ottawa lawyer Eugene Oscapella, who teaches drug law and policy in the department of criminology at uOttawa, says the situation isn’t all that dissimilar to the initial appearance of pot shops a handful of years ago. “It’s a lot like cannabis was before legalization, and there’s probably a tolerance level that varies from city to city and neighbourhood to neighbourhood,” he said.
