Lane County Public Health’s prevention supervisor, Elisabeth Maxwell has been watching the crisis closely. She said it’s been going on for years… Naloxone, also known as Narcan, can be used to reverse an opioid overdose.
Investigators with the Eugene Police Department are on high alert for mass overdose events. They report that fentanyl is found in almost all pills bought on the street – from oxycodone to Xanax. And now there is the threat of powdered fentanyl being sold as cocaine… Narcan is available at all Lane County pharmacies, although people may have to wait a few days for it to arrive. She said there may also be a cost. Another resource is HIV Alliance… has provided test strips and naloxone to community members.
