Could Kratom be the CBD of the opiate world? … Ironically, the greatest danger of Kratom these days is from fake products contaminated with substances approved by the FDA.
In rats, there was no observed toxicity following single, huge oral doses up to 806 mg/kg of [mitragyine]. (CBD is also well tolerated at very high doses). Moreover, the chronic use of (mitragynine] – 30 multiple oral doses of up to 50 mg/kg per day – did not produce any noticeable side effects. In dogs, no side effects were seen during daily oral doses of 16 mg/kg of mitragyine per day, plus two additional days of oral 32 mg/kg per day. Also [mitragynine] activates the mu-opiod receptors, human Kratom ingestion is not associated with respiratory depression, pulmonary edema, coma, or death … Regular Kratom users do not appear to experience significant impairments in their social functioning … However, there have been serious problems involving adulterants. Kratom is unlikely to be tainted in South Asian countries where residents can by fresh Kratom juice from local producers. But adulterants are not uncommon in commercialized Kratom products – capsules, tablets, concentrates, powder, and raw leaves – that are sold over the Internet to Western consumers. May Kratom products are spiked with caffeine, Tramadol (a synthetic opioid pain medication) or other pharmaceuticals.
