The 15-ounce pound revisited
U.K. company GW Pharmaceuticals Plc, provided “substantial evidence” of the drug’s [Epidiolex] effectiveness, FDA staff said. The medication [is now FDA approved to] treat seizures associated with two rare forms of epilepsy that typically affect children. …the medication appears to have an increased risk of liver injury. … GW Pharmaceuticals is really part of a conglomeration of international pharmaceutical corporations that [wants to control what] plant[s] you can grow in your backyard and will control its use in cancer [and epilepsy] treatment. They will be fracking apart the plant and selling it back to you piecemeal in different cannabanoid ratios that they now own the rights to.
So why does a company like GW Pharma get to make money out of a cannabis-based drug like Sativex [and Epidiolex], while the rest of the businesses in the industry have to suffer with numerous obstacles that have to do with regulation, banking, and many other headaches? [For example] despite sounding like a medicine, Sativex is an extract made from the cannabis plant. GW Pharma has been open about the fact that Sativex already contains the very same compounds that are already found in the cannabis plant. It’s also a little strange that Sativex is actually manufactured in the United Kingdom – a country where [home grown] cannabis is ILLEGAL even for medical purposes. Smells like a monopoly to me … Patenting cannabis is like patenting corn and all the products it makes, and then telling me I can’t grow corn in my backyard. How do you patent nature, restrict people’s access to it and then charge them to use it while you are making a big profit? [Consider if] the national government [or state-level governments] nationalize [or consider state-ownership of] this new fledgling marijuana industry as a cooperative nationwide network of American people [or Citizens of a State], not corporations. This reasoning is based on two counts: We, the people of the U.S., own the first [cannabis related] patent … since back in 2003. This… [could] be reparation to the people, to try to heal the 75-year war we have waged on ourselves out of ignorance.
