Oregon mushrooms at retail, no guide necessary

The line to enter Shroom House in downtown Portland extended around the block on Friday [12/2/22], following news that the store was selling psychedelic mushrooms to customers. In fact, the shop has been open about psilocybin sales since before it opened. In August [2022], when signs around the shop still said “coming soon,” psilocybin appeared about halfway down a list of mushrooms that Shroom House advertised for sale.

The website says users must be 19 or older to access. Inside, it looks like a dispensary or holistic shop: artificial vines hang from rafters above, large planted pots adorn the cement floor and white wooden shelves are sparsely speckled with products in a clean, airy space. They even have T-shirts with the logo. Upon entry, customers are required to show two forms of I.D. – a driver’s license and debit or credit card – and fill out a form listing their name and address. They’re asked to become a member of the “Shroom House Society.”
