Congressman introduces new bill to abolish civil forfeiture

…would prohibit the federal government from using civil forfeiture, which lets law enforcement take cash, cars, and other valuables from people never charged with a crime… Out of all forfeiture cases processed by the U.S. Department of Justice between 2000 and 2019, 84% were civil. Many of those cases involved relatively modest sums, not windfalls from kingpins. In recent years, roughly half of all DOJ cash forfeitures were under $12,000.
